1) Tokyopop's website. After all, this is the company that is bringing us BOTH versions. 2) One of the more popular online Anime/Manga retailers that I frequent: www.therightstuf.com 3) Personal observation Keep in mind that you shouldn't depend on this page for the up to date information as it relates to FUTURE releases-because I update the fansite on a monthly/bi-monthly basis... and I do only so much as a time. Information can change at the last minute... and I certaintly don't want to be responsible for giving out false/inaccurate data. The information on PREVIOUS releases is pretty much correct though. Generally, the anime/manga SHOULD be available to purchase at your favorite retailer (internet or actual store like Suncoast for example) ON the date advertised. Some places may start selling items as early from a day to a week to a MONTH ahead of the scheduled release date (I've seen it done and have taken advantage of it) and others might get their stock late (meaning the items will be sold 2-7 days AFTER the release date). Be conscious of this when you're planning a shopping trip, making purchases online, or trying to wait to take advantage of discounts. |

Now, without credentials, the only place he can land a job is as a student teacher at the Holy Forest Academy where he only barely gets hired after humiliating the Vice Principal. He'll have to use his street smarts to deal with students and faculty alike if he's ever going to become a Great Teacher. Back to the menu. |

Note: This picture of Onizuka WAS NOT the one that appeared on the original Japanese cover. Actually this one is a whole lot better than the original. Back to the menu. |

He isn't the type of person to do another's dirty work but lends a hand nonetheless and his plan is definitely out of the ordinary! The students of Holy Forest Academy also lead interesting lives. Teenage crushes, love potions, midnight paintball wars and blackmail should be made part of the standard curriculum. Back to the menu. |

Onizuka reacts in his usual fashion and finds out the hard way that this new kid on the block, Mayu, is Chairwoman Sakurai's grandson! Onizuka receives the shock of his life when his greatest benefactor turns her back on him just when he needs her the most. Note: Fuyumi Kujirakawa was left off the front cover of the American release of Volume 14. She was on the cover along with Fuyutsuki, Uehara, and Fukada in the original Japanese cover. The picture on the back of the American release is what the Japanese version looked like (in part). Back to the menu. |

Note that Volume 16 is different from the 15 volumes with came before it. You'll know it once you've actually picked up the book. The cover is more 'glossy' and 'silky' than the others. WOW! Back to the menu. |
Purchase Information:

|
Note that Volume 17's cover is exactly like the covers for Volumes 1-15... in terms of texture/touch. Volume 17 did not get the same smooth and silky treatment as did Volume 16. Ignoring the feel of the cover for a second for this is a really great volume of the manga! >>The special feeling/texture covers probably applied to some of the Tokyopop manga releases in/around January 2004. Another such release was Volume 3 of "Gravitation"... released in/around December 2003. Back to the menu. |

Note: There are several characters LEFT OUT of the front cover of the American release of Volume 18. They happen to be Yoshito Kikuchi, Tomoko Nomura, Miyabi Aizawa, Saeko Iijima, and Chikako Shirai. In the original Japanese cover, all the main Class 3-4 characters (except for Izumi whose face got left out due to the angle/landscape layout) plus Onizuka + Fuyutsuki made it onto the cover... granted it was sideways (landscape layout) instead of being 'up to down' (portrait). The back cover has the 'uncut' version of the picture. You can finally everyone (left out or not) there. Second Note: You don't get a chance to see the Great Teacher Onizuka characters in color that often. Enjoy what you have! You'd be surprised to learn what is the 'actual' hair color of some of the characters... some of it is that strange... especially when compared to their anime version counterparts. Third
Note: This
is the first Great Teacher Onizuka cover that does not have "37 million
copies sold worldwide" label on it. Instead it has the "As seen on
Showtime" label. On November 3, 2003, "Great Teacher
Onizuka" made its North American television debut on Showtime's "SHO Next"
channel (one of those extra premimum/digital channels) at 9:00 PM, airing
Monday-Friday. The current picture cover above was obtained from
the Tokyopop site, and thus does not reflect the actual cover released.

Note: This is the first GTO cover with the newly/recently implemented large red Tokyopop logo on the top of the side/spine. This cover will help to make the last fifth (or so) of the volumes in the series 'stand out,' literally. The picture, GTO logo and name got pushed down a few centimeters. The author's name and volume # remained in the same area/position. ****Also be aware that any FUTURE reprintings of the first 18 volumes will have the large red Tokyopop logo at the top of the book's spine.**** Second Note:"As seen on Showtime" label on front cover. NOTE: This the first Great Teacher Onizuka cover that comes with this:
Yes... an explicit content parental advisory label. Now you might be thinking: 'What could this volume contain that GTO hasn't already done/seemed outrageous (to some people) given what already happened in the series?' Tokyopop had their reasons... and I suppose it's better to safe than sorry. SOME of the content IS serious... intense. No joke, given the way things are in the world nowadays. Remember that the original Japanese version of the manga was originally released when the world was (slightly) different... plus the Japanese way of living/lifestyle/society is different than America's. Incidentally, I've noticed that several OTHER Tokyopop releases at around the same time at GTO Vol 20 got the warning label. Coincidence? Oh yeah... the 'As seen on Showtime!' label is back. Back to the menu. |
Purchase Information:
